WelcomeTo My Page!

I'm a wife, mom, mom in law and a grandmother whose love of auctions span 38 years. As a young married couple on a budget, auctions furnished our home and are a source for the various birthday and holiday gifts. They were, and still are, a fun way to meet others who share the same passion for them as we do.

The internet has opened up a whole new world for auction lovers of all types. Imagine being able to attend a Live auction from the comfort of your home! I will be sharing my experience with both live in person and internet auctions and how I use them to source vintage items for our eBay business...Desert Sun Collectibles. Enjoy!

The Mystery Box Auction

I was sitting here looking at potential auctions and got to thinking about how much I miss going to live local auctions. We had a favorite auction house that we went to every Saturday night when we were younger. The auctioneer's name was "Shorty" and yes, he was short, and bald, and he loved to play jokes on his audience, especially if you were new. Now we knew all about Shorty's shenanigans, but one evening he put up a mystery box, no one knew what was in it and he started it at 50 cents. He had one bidder...until curiosity got the better of my dear hubby and he bid a dollar. Shorty tried really hard to get more bids, but no one was biting! Dear hubby won the mystery box and the look on his face was priceless when he opened it..it was a case of Kotex! Needless to say everyone had a good laugh and well...dear hubby never bid on another mystery box! LOL
